Can a vehicle go off road?

Vehicles are permitted on unsealed roads (gravel roads) provided they are properly formed and council maintained roads shown on tourist maps. 4wd tracks, beaches, Forestry maintained roads and washed out tracks are not permitted.

Some of our depots do provide off road 4WD vehicles please contact us on 1300 132 708 or email us to find out which depots and conditions.

Can I drive my car into National Parks?

Yes. Vehicles are allowed in to all national parks provided roads are open for use.

Can I take my vehicle to Bruny Island?

Yes. Vehicles are allowed on to Bruny Island. You are covered under our Rental Agreement for use on Bruny Island and travel on the Bruny Island Ferry. Due to the nature of roads we recommend an SUV type of vehicle for this purpose.

What happens if I breakdown?

You are covered by a 24 hour breakdown service, as long as it is not driver error ie. running out of fuel, changing a tyre or leaving lights on and flattening the car batteries. Additional cover can be purchased for some vehicle classes to cover these incidents.

What do I need to provide for car rental?

You need to provide a valid driving licence issued in your home country. If not in English a certified translated copy or an International Licence is required. You will also need a valid credit card. (Visa or Mastercard – some depots do not accept amex or diners cards and if they do there is normally a surcharge.

Can I use a debit card?

Debit cards can be used for the payment of car rental balance, however a credit card must be presented as security for the booking and any additional charges. Prepaid and Reloadable debit cards as well as Travel money cards and EFTPOS cards are not acceptable. Special conditions may apply to anybody using a debit card please ask the applicable depot when booking your vehicle.

Do I need to pay a Security Bond?

A bond may be required when you hire the vehicle. This is processed to your credit card and refunded within 14 days of return. Depending on level of Damage Liability you select, the amount of bond will depend on your age and level of Collision Damage Waiver taken.

How old do I have to be to rent a car?

You have to be at least 21 years of age and have held a driving licence for a minimum of 2 years. Some vehicle categories such as 6 cylinder vehicles, Minibuses, 4WD’s, sports & prestige vehicles require drivers to be at least 25 years of age or have a specific licence category.

Why do we need all details?

Accurate flight details and times, along with your contact details, email & mobile number ensures we have all we need to provide a smooth booking and delivery service.

Can another person drive my rental vehicle?

Yes, provided they meet age & experience criteria and provide us with a copy of their driving licence. Additional fees may apply.

Do you hire baby seats and GPS units?

Yes we can supply a full range of baby seats or booster seats and GPS’s at an additional daily amount. Please notify us early as possible in peak periods.

What is a single vehicle accident?

A Single Vehicle Accident (SVA) is defined as any accident or damage not involving another vehicle or where the vehicle and driver cannot be identified. SVA’s are commonly but not limited to accidents that occur between the vehicle and wildlife or in car parks where the vehicle is left unattended.

What is my insurance liability?

There is a range of options to provide suitable cover for damage. These can be selected any time prior to hiring your vehicle. At all times reversing, undercarriage and overhead damage is excluded, as is negligence, DUI, or where the terms and conditions of the Rental Agreement are breached. Towing/retrieval costs are at your expense.

What if the accident is not my fault?

Irrespective of cause or fault, you are liable for the excess amount up front. If recovery can be made from the other party or their insurer then a refund would apply. It should be noted that recovery can be a lengthy process and if successful, legal and/or administrative costs may apply and be deducted from any amount reimbursed.

What if I don’t fill up the car on return?

All vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel as when collected unless the pre paid fuel option has been chosen, otherwise a fee will be charged based on 1/8’s of a tank and this will be dependent on the vehicle and the type of fuel it needs.

Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR)

Any hire that extends past 90 days Go Aussie Car Rentals will register our interest under this Rental Agreement on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR). Go Aussie does not need to notify you if we make or change such a registration, to the extent permitted by the law.

When do I pay for my rental?

Payment is to be made in full prior to collection of the vehicle for the estimated charges based on the advised rental duration. This amount is ‘estimated’ only as rental periods, vehicles usage and optional extras may be altered during the course of the rental. During peak periods and on specialty vehicle a non-refundable deposit may be requested at the time of the booking.

If you require higher kilometres than what is shown on the website, please contact us as we have special packages to help all of your needs.

What if I have to cancel a booking is there a fee?
  • -Cancelled within 25 days of collection – No Fee
  • -Cancelled 8-24 days of collection – 20% of Gross Total
  • -Cancelled 7 -3 days of collection – 50% of Gross Total
  • -Cancelled within 48 hours or no show – 100% of Gross Total
Can I pick up from the Airport?

Yes. Go Aussie Car Rentals is located just off airport and this enables us to either arrange vehicles to be dropped at the Airports or we can meet and greet you, some conditions apply.

Can I tow a trailer?

Yes we have a wide variety of tow vehicles, let us know your requirements before booking. Please be aware that certain requirements need to be fulfilled and there is no towing allowed without prior written consent.

Can I collect a vehicle at one location and drop it at another?

Yes this is possible, subject to conditions and availability. Please contact our office to discuss arrangements with our staff. One way relocation fees may apply.

Can I rent on a Learner licence?

No, learner drivers are not permitted to drive our vehicles at any time.

How am I assured of the vehicles condition?

On arrival – Our staff will escort you around the vehicle and conduct a joint inspection of the vehicle. You will then get a copy of the vehicle condition report. If you are picking up from an Airport location after hours you will find the completed vehicle condition report in the vehicle. You are required to inspect the vehicle and advise us immediately if you notice anything contrary to what is on the vehicle condition report.

On Return – Our staff will inspect the vehicle to ensure the vehicle is in the same condition as it left.

As an additional safeguard we photograph all vehicles as part of the inspection process and these are kept on file to identify any existing damage as well as the fuel level and kilometre readings.

Does my travel Insurance cover me if I have an accident?

All insurers and policies are different. We suggest that you read your policy details or contact your insurance provider. If you cannot ascertain whether you are covered we would suggest that you reduce the liability. We have been made aware by previous renters that some travel insurance policies will only offer cover on the understanding that you take all liability reductions offered to you as part of the rental. In the event of accident you must pay us the excess amount immediately and then seek reimbursement from the card company.

What if I return the vehicle late?

If you need to return a vehicle late we give a one hour grace period then we charge an hourly rate for 3 hours then a full days payment is required. Please advise us immediately when you know you will be running late. This will enable us to organize an alternate vehicle for the next renter and avoid disruption to their schedule.

Do the “daily rates” vary and will they change if I call back to book?

Our rental rates are subject to availability and demand and do change regularly. We quote rates based on availability at the time of the quote. Once a reservation has been made we can confirm all fees and charges.

Can I extend the rental duration?

Extending the rental duration is possible at time of check out or during the rental itself. You will need to contact us to advise duration of the extension required and to arrange payment. The extension is subject to vehicle availability and extra payment being received.

Can I modify my reservation once it is confirmed?

Confirmed reservations can be altered however they are subject to availability. It may be necessary to alter the cost of the rental if dates, length of hire and/or vehicle category are amended. We may need to cancel the existing reservation and re-quote.

Can I get a quote without making a reservation?

Yes you may request a quote and check availability without making a reservation online or over the phone. You can have the quote emailed to you or you can proceed to making a reservation at that point if you desire.
